My poems (writing workshop)

These are some poems I wrote during a Writing Workshop which was held by a childrens poet. I hope you enjoy reading them!

As slow as a snail
As swishy as a tail
As long as a rail
As sick as a jail
As sharp as a knife
As sleepy as a fife
As warm as a fire
As flat as a tyre
As upright as a door
As lively as a boar
As loud as a roar
As soft as a snore
As scary as a war

In the wardrobe I keep my dress
That my aunty told me to wear as my best
That little pot full of slime, reminds me of the good times
Also my cool watch, that never stops
My parker pen that helps me when the world never ends
My old school letter that never opened for the better
And my chewing gum that I stuck with my thumb
A model elephant that looks quite elegant
Pots of lice and also mice
I feed them seeds when they are in need
A sharp pencil that goes well in a stencil
A huge whistle that makes my ears drizzle


THAT NIGHT WAS A FRIGHT

IT WAS UNLIKE ANY OTHER NIGHT

IN THE DARK MIDNIGHT THERE WAS AN INVITE

IN THE MISTY TWILIGHT

IT WAS SUCH A FRIGHT AND A HORRID SIGHT

IT WAS NEARLY BROAD DAYLIGHT

DESPITE NO DELIGHT THE HORROR WAS LIKE MARMITE

AS THE MOONLIGHT LIT BRIGHT THAT NIGHT

IT WAS ANNOYING LIKE A PARASITE

THE NIGHT WAS QUITE COLD WITH A HIGH FARENHIGHT

IT MIGHT JUST BITE IF YOUR NOT QUITE RIGHT

Is tap water better than bottled water?
In Fiji a test was run to see if tap water was better than bottled water. The results were, the Fiji bottled water had less quality than the tap water. Bottled water costs more too.

What do the public prefer bottled water of tap water?
In a test across the country people chose tap water over bottled water. Well why is this? If a company wants to grow they have to sell more items, they have tried to make people scared into thinking tap water was bad for you. And that’s how bottled water was promoted. Not only that they also tried to make the water look like it was fresh and better quality by putting rivers, trees, and animals in the packaging.

Where dose bottled water come from?
Believe it or not a 3rd of bottled water comes from taps! Making plastic bottles is equivalent to fuelling 1 million cars.

What happens to the bottles when we have finished with them?
80% of them go to landfills and stay there for 100s of years. Some bottles get sent to India where they are suppose to be recycled but they are down recycled which means they are made into lower quality products. The solution to this is to invest in public water. All this money could be spent on improving our water service.

FACTS ABOUT BOTTLED WATER
Sometimes bottled water is less regulated. Bottled water costs 2000 times more than tap water. People in the U.S.A buy half a billion bottles of water a week. That is enough to circle the globe more than 5 times.

Secret Friends

Summary
Secret Friends is a great and very well written book. Rafaela, the main character, is very different to the people in her new school and does not seem to fit in. But outside of school is a whole new world. Consequently, she becomes the victim of bullying. She meets Lucy who seems to understand her well and they get on like they have known each other for a very long time. Throughout the story we see how Lucy reacts to the way people have been treating Rafaela and how it affects her, so she makes a life changing decision later on in the story...

Characters

Rafaela
Rafaela is from a foreign country and does things differently from other people. She has a shy personality, but when you get to know her you find out many new and amazing things about her. Rafaela is different to other people because of many things including her hair which is frizzy and a shade of light brown; however people in her school have fair straight hair which singles her out. Also her origin because where she comes from is maybe an African country and most people at her school are from England. Finally her name, Rafaela is not an English name like Lucy’s.


Lucy
Lucy sometimes doesn’t know which side to take so she is sometimes confused. Should she stay with the coolest girls in the school (Kate and Sophie) who exclude Rafaela, or should she be herself and stay with Rafaela, letting no one change the way she acts if she is around different people? Lucy doesn’t have a very strong relationship with her mum and seems to behave in a way that almost makes you think she has issues involving her family.

Rafaela’s father
He is quite culturally traditional and likes to listen to his sad foreign music. Rafaela’s father is quite old and really cares about Rafaela he is not the most social of people and quite insular.

Setting
The story takes place in school which makes an everyday realistic effect on the setting. Later on in the story, in chapter 2, the setting changes to a calm small compact house with delightful smells and sounds of foreign music and sweet and spicy foods. This happens when Rafaela surprisingly invites Lucy over to her house.

Themes
One of the major themes in this book is Friendship. Sometimes in friendship you don’t know which way to act, which kind of friend you want to be and how that you are going to show that you care. For example on the first day of school when Lucy first meets Rafaela and does not know how to react to her different approach. They both bumped into each other in the corridor and introduced themselves, then that is when Lucy takes it the wrong way. “I can’t call you that,” I said, bursting out into laughter. ”I’m going to call you earwig eerie eerie-earwig.”
Another theme in the book is Bullying. When Rafaela and Lucy first met and Lucy called her names and that is when the bullying started and Rafaela was disliked because of the size of her ears. Another theme is Death which is a strong theme. When you lose someone you love and care about. Lucy and Rafaela’s family lost Rafaela. Linked to this theme is Guilt. Lucy started the bullying and when everyone found out about the tragic accident that had occurred they felt guilty about putting her down so much that it led her to wanting to change her appearance. Even Kate and Sophie felt guilty about leaving her out in their discussions.

Conclusion
In my opinion this book is an emotional rollercoaster. It has sadness and loss when Rafaela passed away. It also has happiness when Rafaela had found a true friend. I would recommend this book to mainly girls aged 10 to around 13 years old because high school can be harder than primary school and it teaches you a lesson about strong themes and how to be a good loyal friend also about what the outside world can be like.

Chimpanzee Causes Chaos

Yesterday Charlie the chimp, aged 12, escaped from Chester zoo, causing havoc in the surrounding area. Mrs Smith was eating her breakfast, happily looking forward to a day's shopping, when glansing out of her window , she saw a chimpanzee eating apples from her apple tree.

She looked closer and then realised it, the chimp, was starring right at her. She called the RSPCA and they had had that chimp in their custody in the past. And before long they returned Charlie back to Chester zoo.

The zoo keepers said to Mrs Smith "He had been gone for days , and he was just looking for f00d."

She exclaimed "I usualy like chimpanzees but this one ruined my garden."

"We do apologise Mrs Smith , it won't happen again" the zoo keeper replied.

Mrs Smith drove home and still had some time to do her shopping, before she went to pick her kids up from school. That afternoon she had dinner with her family and told them the story.

Book Review 2

My Reading 2

I read chapter 3 of Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon.

My favorite characters are Horrid Henry and Moody Margret.

This is because they have such great pranks.

I particularly enjoyed when Horrid Henry pretended to be ill because he wanted to stay at home like Perfect Peter and watch TV.

Finally I find these books very funny and all children from the age of 7-10 would really like them.

Book Review

I read chapter 1-3 of A Series Of Unfortunate Events, The Austere Academy book five by Lemony Snicket.

My favorite characters are Klaus, Sunny and Violet Baudelaire.This is because they are all intelligent and have such miserable lives. They like inventing different devices, reading non-fiction books to find out about the world. Also biting-well, sunny does!

I particularly enjoyed how Vice Principal Nero reacted to the Baudelaire orphans. However, I disliked the way Carmelita Spats reaction towards the Baudelaires.

finally, I would recommend this book to other people because no other ordinary book that I have heard or read is not set out in this particular style.
